Freshman Orientation "Raider Rush"

Dear Glenbard South New Students and Parents,

Congratulations on your graduation from eighth grade and your enrollment at Glenbard South High School! We know that the transition to high school is exciting, but we also realize that it is a big milestone that can bring new challenges. For that reason, Glenbard South has designed a student orientation called “Raider Rush.” Raider Rush provides students with the best opportunity for a successful beginning to their high school journey.

Freshmen Orientation and Raider Rush will take place on Wednesday, August 7th in the Gym from 2:00pm-6:30pm. All incoming students are encouraged to attend this orientation event! We invite all freshmen students and their families to join us for the Freshmen Family BBQ beginning at 6:30pm after Raider Rush!

During Raider Rush students will attend small-group orientation sessions led by student Link Crew Leaders. Link Crew is a freshman mentorship program designed to welcome new students to Raider Nation, connect them with upperclassmen student mentors (Link Leaders), and equip new students with useful information to help them successfully navigate the beginning of their high school career. Students will receive valuable information that will acquaint students with members of the staff, allow students the opportunity to meet other new students, provide an overview of the academic resources available at Glenbard South, and address expectations for behavior. Students will learn about extracurricular opportunities and will be introduced to the culture and traditions of Glenbard South.

In addition, freshman students will meet with Ms. Santee for the Principal’s Welcome, take yearbook photos, receive their Student ID, and get their class schedules. Students can bring any registration forms with them needed for the first day of school.

On August 7th, we will provide a bus so that all new students can attend. Buses will pick students up at their assigned stops, and will transport students back to their regular stops after Raider Rush at 7:15pm. The bus schedule for this event will be posted on the school website.

Please encourage your student(s) to attend the Raider Rush Freshmen Orientation. Students do not need to bring anything with them, including iPads, and students will be asked to put their cell phones away during Raider Rush. They should dress comfortably and be prepared to be active. On behalf of the Link Crew Coordinators, Link Leaders, Faculty, and Staff, we welcome you to the Glenbard South Family.

Go Raiders!

Sincerely,

Marina Kosak, Assistant Principal for Student Services
Michael White, Link Crew Coordinator
Britt Hanson, Link Crew Coordinator
