GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

In earning the twenty-one (21) credits necessary to graduate, a student must successfully complete the following Illinois and
Glenbard District #87 required courses of study. Meeting District #87 graduation requirements should not be confused with
meeting college entrance requirements. The recommended course of study for college bound students is minimally considered to
be 4 years of English, 3-4 years of math, 3 years of science, 3 years of social studies and 2 years of a foreign language.

Communication - Seven (7) semesters
This requirement must include six (6) semesters of English and one (1) semester of speech

Social Studies - Four (4) semesters
a. Two (2) semesters of United States History including instruction in state and local government
b. Successful passing of an examination on the Constitutions of the United States and the State of Illinois, the Declaration of Independence, and the Flag Code
c. Two (2) semesters of Social Studies electives

Mathematics - Six (6) semesters
Computer Programming (Visual Basic), offered in the Business, Life Studies, and Technology
Department, may count for .5 credit in math.

Science - Two (2) semesters

Cultural Arts - One (1) semester
This requirement may be met through art, music, foreign language, or speech arts.
(Speech arts must be in addition to required speech listed in “Communication.”)

Business, Life Studies and Technology - One (1) semester
This requirement may be met through a course in Business Education, Computer Education,
Family and Consumer Science, Industrial Technology or the Technology Center of DuPage

Consumer Education - One (1) semester
This requirement can be taken in one of the following programs:
a. State of Illinois Consumer Education Proficiency Exam available twice per year, as announced (See “Consumer Education Proficiency Exam,” page 16.)
b. Economics or Economics AP (Social Studies)
c. Cooperative Work Training (Business, Life Studies and Technology / Business Education)
d. Consumer Management (Business, Life Studies and Technology / Family and Consumer Science)
e. SE Consumer Education or SE Social Studies (Special Education) (Courses taken to meet the Consumer Education requirement do not fulfill the Business, Life Studies, and Technology requirement.)
