A Message From Our Principal
July 2009
Summer at South!
Once again the building is filled with workers who are making much needed improvements to our building. The domestic plumbing replacement that we started last summer continues this summer in the Science Wing and the Tower. This is a multi-year project and different areas of the building will be done next summer. We replaced the flooring in several classrooms. Workers are installing a new state-of-the-art Fire Alarm System. Outside we are refurbishing the bleachers in the stadium. The new configuration will allow for wheelchair seating on the home side. Additionally, roofing work is being done on the Science Wing. Along with all of these projects our maintenance crews are doing the intense cleaning and repairs that happen each summer.
Of course our students, teachers and coaches aren’t going to let a little dust get in the way of the commitments they have made to scholarship and athletics. Several summer school courses are running at South and our athletes, including the neighborhood children, have participated in athletic camps. Administratively, we are making plans for the coming school year.
I would like to welcome new Assistant Principal for Instruction, Mr. David Daly. Mr. Daly comes to us from Rich East High School where he was the Math Instructional Leader. Prior to his time at Rich East Mr. Daly taught Math at Providence High School and Joliet High School, where he also served as Assistant Athletic Director. Mr. Daly’s dedication to students and knowledge of best practice research shone through during the interview process. We are happy to have him as a member of the South staff.
May the remaining weeks of summer bring you and your families much deserved rest and relaxation.
Sincerely,
Terri Hanrahan
Principal
