Equipment Checkout for Students
Student Equipment Checkout Policy

Students may check out AV equipment for use in the studio or immediate area during the school day (on a period by period basis) with a student ID.

Students may check out the following AV equipment for overnight/weekend use with a signed parent permission form:
- Digital cameras
- Digital video cameras
- Tape recorders
- Tripods
- Other equipment at the discretion of the AV Specialist


Student Checkout Procedure

Students must present an ID (in-school checkout) or an ID plus a signed parent permission form (overnight/weekend checkout).
Permission forms are kept on file for the school year and may be used again.
Students must return equipment before 1st period the following school day.
Failure to return equipment on time will result in a $10.00 per day late charge. Students who fail to return equipment a second time will be referred to the Dean.



Equipment Checkout for Staff
Staff Checkout Policy
Staff members may check out equipment for classroom use daily, weekly, or quarterly at the discretion of AV staff.

Staff Checkout Procedure
Staff members requesting equipment should contact the AV secretary or AV Specialist as soon as the equipment is needed.
Equipment may be picked up by the staff member, by a student with a written note from the teacher, or may be delivered by AV staff or student aides.
Equipment to be delivered may require a 24-hour waiting period.
Laptop and projector checkouts are logged on the Laptop Checkout calendar in FirstClass. Camera and video camera checkouts are logged on the Camera Checkout calendar in FirstClass.

Studio South Policies
1. Lab Hours & Availability

- The lab is open from 7:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. on all school days. On late-arrival days, the lab will open at 9:00 a.m.
- Study hall students may use the AV lab with an LRC pass or teacher pass, or during an assigned lunch period. Once admitted, students may not leave the lab without a pass.
- Study hall and lunch students may be refused lab use if a class has scheduled the lab. Classes have first priority.
- Study hall and lunch students will have usage priority as follows:
- Students with projects that MUST be completed in AV (i.e. movie projects) take first priority.
- Students with projects or assignments that require the general use of computers or color printing take second priority.
- Students using the lab for personal use or leisure take lowest priority and may be asked to leave at the discretion of AV staff.
- Study hall and lunch students are expected to exhibit appropriate computer lab behavior at all times.

2. Behavioral Expectations

- All District, school, and LRC rules apply to the AV lab.
- Students may not cut through the AV lab to enter or exit the LRC.
- No food or drink is allowed in lab.
- Bottled beverages with caps or packaged food must be stored in backpacks or on a shelf (at the discretion of AV staff).
- Uncontained drinks or foods must be discarded before entering the labs.
- Students are to respect the AV staff and treat all equipment with care.
- Failure to comply with behavioral expectations may result in disciplinary action and/or loss of lab privileges.

AV Material Checkout
AV Materials are for overnight checkout for students. Depending on the situation and material, due dates may be extended at the discretion of AV staff.

AV Materials are checked out to teachers as needed.



Services
- Teachers may request small-run production services, such as single flyer or poster creation.

- Black and white (line art) poster enlargements can be run for classroom or administrative purposes free of charge.
 These posters will be enlarged using the Varitronics poster printer.

- Teachers must submit (or request) a black and white 8.5” x 11” master of the item to be enlarged.
- Color poster enlargements can be run for classroom or administrative purposes for $5.00 per square foot of image.
- Color poster enlargements are created using the Epson 9800 Photo printer.
- Posters are printed on Epson Enhanced Matte paper unless otherwise requested.
- Posters printed on specialty paper (luster paper, glossy paper) may require additional paper fees, at the discretion of AV staff.
- Staff and students must consult with the AV Specialist to ensure that the image quality and format is appropriate for poster enlargement.
- Students and staff are required to pay for any images printed, whether used or not.

- Other small-run production items may be requested as needed. Large runs of print or specialty items should be outsourced to production facilities (Alphagraphics, Kinko’s, etc.).

- Adequate notice should be given and time should be allowed for all production services.


Supplies & Lamination
- Students should purchase most supplies (including posterboard, photo paper, and batteries) from the Bookstore. We do not supply or sell poster board to    students! Teachers requiring poster projects should plan to have their students bring in poster board or purchase it from the bookstore.

- Students may purchase blank CDs for $1.00 and DVD-Rs for $2.00 from the AV Secretary.

- Teachers may use posterboard, white butcher paper, copier and write-on transparencies, and a limited number of other supplies at no charge.

- Students and staff members may use the color printer at no charge if the printing is directly related to a class assignment. Students and staff members are not to use the color printer for personal use.

- Teachers may request lamination services for school-related items at no charge. Please do not bring in personal items for lamination.

- Students may request lamination services for a small fee, depending on the size of the item. Driving permits and 8.5” x 11” sheets are $0.25 per page/permit. Posters are $1.00 per poster.

- 2 MPC PCs with CD burning capability
- 1 32-station Mac laptop cart (Wi-Fi Internet)
- 1 Portable SMARTBoard
- CPS Student Response Systems
- 1 black and white laser printer
- 1 color laser printer
- 4 Epson scanners
- Digital video cameras (Canon, JVC, and Panasonic Mini-DV)
- Digital cameras (Canon PowerShot)
- 1 Midi keyboard (for use with GarageBand)
- Epson 9800 Pro series color inkjet printer (Prints are $5.00/sq. ft.)
- Tripods
- Portable green screen (used in Studio area only)
- CD Players
- Cassette Tape Recorders/Players
- iPod lab
- 4 Mac Laptops (teacher checkout)
- 1 HP Tablet PC
- 4 Epson projectors

The following software applications are available on the lab computers:

- Microsoft Office 2008 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
- iLife (iMovie, iTunes, iPhoto, GarageBand)
- Final Cut Pro
- Adobe Creative Suites 3 (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Flash, Dreamweaver, Acrobat Professional)

- iWork (Pages, Keynote)
- AutoCad (PCs only)
