Parent Education Programs
Dear Parents,
As partners in your teen’s school success, we at Glenbard District 87 invite you to join in our parent education series of speakers of national renown.
Always remember—engaged parents have the greatest impact on the lives of their children! A recent high-profile survey of teens noted that the NUMBER ONE thing that teens wish for is “more family time.” Family dinners are key whenever possible. Be available to listen when your teen wants to talk. Get to know your teen’s friends. BE A PARENT FIRST. Set parameters and teach your teen about consequences. Be aware of at-risk situations such as Homecoming. Also be advised: school attendance is critical, and no matter what your teen tells you, there are NO approved senior “ditch days” in the Glenbard School District. Your teen WANTS parental involvement and the setting of limits (whether they would ever admit to it or not!). Come to the speaker series. Volunteer in one or more of
the numerous parent opportunities available at your child’s high school, and encourage YOUR CHILD to volunteer as well. There are numerous choices available! For more information about speakers, the parent discussion group, or volunteerism contact Gilda Ross (District 87 Student and Community Projects Coordinator) at 267-2975 or at gilda_ross@glenbard.org
Glenbard Families and Communities In Touch Programs
Welcome to the Glenbard INTOUCH Committee (Illinois Network to Organize the Understanding of Community Health). This committee is a collaborative network that exists to educate and assist families and students by forming collaborative relationships with public and private agencies that provide family support services. We believe that linking families to services and community organizations can strengthen home environments and student learning. These partnerships create shared responsibility for the well being of teens, families, and schools by all members of our community. Our monthly meetings are open to parents, community members, school counselors, social workers, psychologists, nurses, deans, and any interested staff member and feature the very best speakers with the most up to date research. Below you will find
our 2008-09 schedule. Please help us pass the word that all are welcome to our parent programs and IN TOUCH.
Our first meeting will take place on WEDNESDAY September 17 from 9-11 at the Marquardt Administration Center, 1860 Glen Ellyn Road, in Glendale Heights. Join us as we welcome a very informative and in-demand teen expert Dr. Michael Bradley when he presents "Working with the New Millennium Adolescent." Dr Bradley is a psychologist, consultant, and author of Yes, Your Teen is Crazy. The work of adolescent intervention has evolved into a highly specialized endeavor demanding skills, temperament, and training which are unique to this population. Prepare to be entertained and enlightened at this very special educational event. For more information contact Gilda Ross (District 87 Student
