A Message From Our Principal

Dear Parents,

Welcome to a new school year!   This past June the 40th class graduated from South.   It gave us pause to celebrate our rich Raider history. Our motto, “Where Excellence is Tradition,” calls us to strive to be the very best we can be in every aspect of our lives.   The academic, athletic, musical and dramatic achievements of our past and present students bring meaning to the motto.  We ended last year celebrating a second place finish for our Boy’s Track Team and a State Championship for our Softball Team.  These accomplishments topped off our most successful athletic year in school history.   We recently received our AP scores and nearly a hundred more students earned college credit than in 2010-2011.   These accomplishments reflect the energy, hard work and dedication of our students.   They continue to add to the tradition of excellence.  Our teachers and support staff provide the expertise and caring to create an environment where students can meet with success.

Another major accomplishment is the addition of an artificial turf field and new track in our stadium.   These additions will impact nearly every student at South.   Physical Education classes will utilize the field during the day.   Our athletes, band members, cheerleaders, and dancers will utilize the field after school.  The field will also be utilized by community groups, reaffirming South’s role as an anchor in the community.

This year both our Student Union and the Booster organization have elected to use the 40th anniversary and a major facility enhancement as a springboard to recommit to the greatest quality of South, an abiding sense of family and community.   They look forward to building 40 more years of excellence!  Much has changed in the years since South opened.   The next 40 years will see even greater change.   What will never change is the commitment of students, parents, staff and community members to keep South a thriving educational community that looks to educate the whole child.   There is so much to be grateful for at South.   Let’s spend the year celebrating all the good in our school and imagining how we can become even better.

I look forward to a great year.  I am excited by the plans our students and parents have in store for our community.   We are on our way to South’s best year ever!

With Raider Pride,

Terri Hanrahan
